First off I'm not really sure that Warp's progression has been a good one....they seem to have more misses than hits lately. As for an artificial intelligence resurgency, as long as people can take elements of that style and bring something new and interesting to it, I think there is validity. When you end up in a situation of perpetual re-hash, thats when there is a problem.
