Also there's been a good amount of interfacing recently between the noise
underground (which has always favored tapes) and the world of proper
dance/techno/idm/etc.
I've noticed alot of material being released both digitally and on
cassette. I imagine there's a good amount of listeners who are into
collecting some sort of physical media but do most of their listening
digitally. CDs for most have no value as an aesthetic object sitting on the
shelf, and vinyl is too much of a pain in the ass to press. Therefore tapes
are ideal for small pressings and legitimize what would otherwise be a
digital-only release, which carries (sadly) stigma, at least to some.
Tapes are fun to dig through and usually get looked over. Found a Terrance
McKenna and Spacetime Continuum collab in my local record store with full
on like 8 panel artwork.
