Michael,
The FatCat split series of 12"s is a pretty good start... i've got the
AMM/Merzbow and Kid 606/De Babylon splits. Actually a better idea is to
track down the Fat Cat Split Series 1-8 CD, which has the contents of the
first lot of 12"s.
With this series, just go for the artists you like, because the series
includes hardcore noise artists, minimal techno and postrock bands, a very
eclectic mix. Fatcat are not a typical techno label at all.
Smoke CDs (ex Allens) in the city carries a range of the Fatcat split's
(including the CD)... they don't however have the Pimmon/Plotkin 12" yet,
which is supposed to be very good.
BTW does anyone know if the Pole/Plotkin imposter 12" was ever released?
All the best,
