01 luomo, vocalcity. this is an elitist's project. this is an unlikely place to get such a record. i won't go into it any further or i may start weeping. but i will say that this album is great. "great" is not a word i often throw around. people have argued that vocalcity is not idm, so it shouldn't be discussed on this list. i believe it's as idm as anything else in this top ten, mainly because it works and moves like a lot of idm does these days. not many records coming out are purely idm anymore. i don't know, i think people get pissy about the vocals. i guess the vocals are shallow or something. sure.. 02 arovane, tides. just damn good downtempo type stuff. somber but not dramatic. 03 lackluster, container. call me a sucker for modscene nostalgia. i've been a lackluster fan for years. i had already heard most of these songs from scene.org. this record gave them a new light. please try to hear this if you haven't. 04 bj?rk, selmasongs. ah, what can i say? bj?rk is mark bell's light at the end of the tunnel. i have no problem with that. i still haven't seen dancer in the dark. 05 vladislav delay, entain/multila. i didn't feel like seperating these into different units, even though they're really very different. i think i like multila a little better cuz it has more variety, and i guess i'm more partial to that sort of thing. mucho props to delay, i really hope he keeps putting out as much stuff as he does now for many years to come. 06 cim, reference. debut of the year? this didn't jump out at me like it did for most people. took me some time to really enjoy it. i for one can appreciate short tracks cuz i don't have the patience to write long ones myself. 07 oval, ovalprocess. yeah oval still kicks the poop out of me. i think people neglect to realize the influence oval has had on the scene as of now. 08 speedy j, a shocking hobby. pretty much the only reason this made it on my list is that "borax" is one of the best songs i've ever heard. "borax" is easily song of the year. the rest of the album is so-so. 09 lily of the valley. i keep wanting to make this out as some bizzare concept record. is it? the cover really confuses me (in a good way). some very nice tracks on this one. 10 clicks_+_cuts. couldn't leave this out. i'm not sure whether or not this record was really important, but i figure it was. it was in my case anyways. i had never heard of any of these artists (kid606, jake mandell, kid clayton, panacea, pole, vladislav delay, farben, sutekh, neina, etc.) until i bought this. btw, i'm quite sure plaid - trainer would be up there some where if i had heard it. mentions: squadron, md - appelsap, biosphere - cirque, funkst?rung - appetite, john tejada - the matrix of us, jega - geometry, datach'i - we are always well, radiohead - kid a, pole - 3, staedtizism, nine inch nails - things falling apart, hell pretty much all the records i bought, 'cept a nameless few. nasdaq had a bad year; idm had a good year. np. the sims _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
