Best-
Datach'i- We are always well thank you
Laurent Gaurnier- Unreasonable Behaviour. See Juno Reactor/Propellorheads
below.
Kid 606- Down with the Scene. Although I still want to hear him do some more
extended song structures.
Not Breathing- Itchy Tingles
Proem- Burn Plate No. 1
Luke Slater- Wireless
Speedy J- A Shocking Hobby
Neurokinetic- comp
Young Gods- Second Nature
Most Dissappointing-
Underworld- Everything Everything. Their live shows last at least two hours,
probably closer to two and a half. Who thought that a single cd of 75
minutes would even approximate that experience? Nevermind that it's mixed
with nary a kick drum to be heard.
Download- Effector. cEvin Key hasn't released anything impressive since 96's
Stanley Pain. It hurts me to admit it, but I think his glory days have LONG
since passed.
Dj Acucrack- Sorted. After putting out a great first album in Mutants of
Sound, why they resorted to the most lackluster, weak-kneed drum 'n' bass is
beyond me.
Dead Voices on Air- The Happy Submarines... Why the real drums? Why the rock
and roll leanings? Mark makes some consistently wonderful dark ambient that
I hope this is just a one-off experiment.
Putting the Morr Back in Morrissey- comp. No flames please, it just didn't
do it for me. Quite in the same bag as Lily of the Valley where one song
clearly outshines the others (Lily= R. Devine, Morr=Phonem, Arovane to a
lesser extent), but the rest of the songs are easy listening filler.
Juno Reactor- that album on Metropolis. It seems that Propellorheads set the
paradigm for artists trying to be all things to all people and running the
risk of sounding totally schizophrenic. Thing is Propellorheads did it
right. Juno Reactor on the other hand...
Blectom from Blechdom- De Snauted Haus. These women do some wonderful stuff
live, but if they want to release novelty albums, they might be wise to
listen to Chicks on Speed.
Most Anticipated in 2001
Richard Devine
Phoenecia
Phonem
Autechre- Peel Sessions 2 and album later in the year (hopefully)- when are
they not one of the most anticipated?
Skinny Puppy- live recording of the Dresden reunion show.
The Orb
