I've been asked by the Interweb to do an End of Year round up type thing coupled with a look to the future, so here it is. I've realised it's nearly 2001, we are all supposed to be floating around in space stations sitting in Eames chairs and stepping into parallel dimensions, but in reality........................................ We had a relatively quiet year with the following releases: 02/00 Broadcast Extended Play 03/00 Mira Calix One On One Broadcast The Noise Made By People 04/00 Vlad Motion Institute 05/00 Broadcast Come On Let's Go 07/00 Jimi Tenor Out Of Nowhere Plaid Trainer 09/00 Two Lone Swordsmen Tiny Reminders Mira Calix Peel Session Jamie Lidell Muddlin' Gear Broadcast Extended Play 2 Jimi Tenor Spell 10/00 Red Snapper Our Aim Is To Satisfy Red Snapper John Callaghan You've Got Your Memories, I've Got My Dreams Chris Morris Blue Jam Prefuse73 Estrocaro 11/00 Red Snapper Some Kind Of Kink Savath And Savalas Folk Songs For Trains, Trees and Honey Boards Of Canada In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country We also released: Nightmares On Wax Keep On limited vinyl Broadcast/TLS Drums On Fire limited vinyl Plaid Booc limited vinyl Other stuff we did this year was move our empire to London (can't remember why), set up a USA office, finished the new tDR/Kleber designed web site and new Warpmart shop to be lauched early 2001, we also signed Buffalo 66 director Vincent Gallo and Scott Herren. If you want to find more about them it's all out there on the net. Oh yeah we did a massive party at a lighthouse which had both chaotic high and low points. At the time it was mainly seen by us as a lesson in how not to organise things but looking back on it, it was pretty top especially hearing Russell Haswell play Chris Morris' "the Gush" at 05:00 in the morning through a huge PA whilst the remaining mutants had their brains fried. Sorry again for the hassle most people incurred at the end. We started the Nesh nights at The Electrowerkz which have been great fun and finally given us somewhere to feel at home (see this month's Face for the type of people who go to it apparently). Oh yeah the PA is "too loud" this makes a very pleasant fucking change. 11/00 Nesh1: Aphex Twin, Leila, Req, Matt Yee King, Push Button Objects. 12/00 Nesh2: Bogdan Raczynski, Ceephax, Chris From St. Albans, Geiom, Jamie Lidell, Keith Tenniswood, Rob Hall. 01/01 Nesh3: Aphex Twin, Brothomstates, Cylob, Req, Richard Devine, Russell Haswell, Vladislav Delay. All events have featured visuals by Semiconductor Films and the Warp DJs. For Nesh news go here http://www.warprecords.com/nesh Broadcast released a classic (but relatively unnoticed) album toured their arses off and morphed themselves from a good live band at the start of the year into a mind blowingly powerfull live force by the end of it. Two Lone Swordsmen have been touring too. Starting down in Brighton in September where they received gig of the month in the NME, they have been traveling near and far to host full-on techno funk parties. Other events of note: Skam "Mushroom" night in Manchester. A night with two dimensions; the "Jovial" backstage area and the "Serious" dance floor with Autechre melting our faces before we realised we were allowed to move away from the speakers. Skratch at the Scala with Anti Pop Consortium, Sonic Sum, Mike Ladd and Saul Williams giving a speech reminding us why the only thing of importance on the planet is ART. Apocalypse at the Royal Academy with Chris Cunningham's "flex", a film with the first beautiful underwater cum shot, and Jake and Dinos Chapman's "masterpiece" on the holocaust - anyone who reckons their work is depressing must not have noticed a mini Stephen Hawking in his techno wheel chair masterminding the operation. Anyway onto 2001 which has got to be a great year - its our time! Boy bands and depressing guitar combos with prehistoric sounding music will be banished from the air waves and the music people will be space travelling with will be........ Autechre Peel Sessions 2 01/01/01 Richard Devine Lip Switch 15/01/01 Tortoise Standards 19/02/00 + Prefuse73 LP, Boards Of Canada LP, Plaid LP, Vincent Gallo LP, Autechre LP, Nightmares On Wax LP, Plone LP, and others.... Also get your tickets for All Tomorrow's parties now - it's got a great lineup, curated by Tortoise, featuring Boards of Canada, Broadcast and Scott Herren amongst others. Check for more details here http://www.alltomorrowsparties.co.uk The main thing about ATP is there's a party at the event, but a better one in your chalet! And get your tickets for January Nesh it's gonna be a big one cos it's a top line up and every one gets bored round about mid Jan and needs a post New Yr rave. Erm, that's it, we are all off snowboarding so if we all get killed in an avalanche please try and carry on the Warp Dynasty and can someone come in and water the plants?
