Personally, i dont understand this part of this thread. Last time i checked, mu-ziq, aphex, squarepusher and the like didn't sound random to me at all. Every one of those drum breaks is meticulously tracked. You can't have random, ratcheting bullshit and expect it to flow, i've tried it, it doesn't work. So what that means is that every time they change up the rythm(sometimes 1, sometimes every 2 - 4 measures), that's a new part that has to be tracked not only in relation to itself, but also in that it must flow with all the parts before and after it.
