it is often up to the doctor delivering a child to determine the child's
sex. it is not all that uncommon for a baby to be born with a penis that is
abnormally small, so the doctor will do a little splice and snip job and
presto! you have a baby girl. Same thing can happen when a doctor botches a
circumcision really badly. Some thinkers have used data about occurances
like this to try and throw the whole idea of polarized, set-in-stone sex
differences into question. If you're interested in seeing the full
treatment, the only author I can really think of off my head is Pat Califia,
but there are others, too.
