Hi 2 all, I've good news. The album by EU has been released about 2 months ago. And I hope it will be available via Safety In Numbers, HardWax, FE, etc soon. Here is a press release: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Artist: EU Title: EU_Soft Label: ArT-TeK Cat.No: ART011CD Lenght: Long Play Format: CD This new release from ArT-TeK records presents the first ever full-length album by electronic music duo from St.Petersbourg - the EU (Christmass Toys). By releasing the album EU_Soft Art-Tek is carrying on presenting to all fans of electronic music the most innovative and avantgard music from the post-Soviet space. The band consists of Alexander Zaitsev, a mathematician (PhD), and Ilya Baramiya, who is also working his PhD in architecture. They became interested in modern electronic music in the early 90-ies, when both started listening to a lot of electronic music from lables such as Warp, Ninja Tunes, Rephlex etc. Common interest in music and records exchange became the main motivation for their friendship and collaboration. Their first experiments in sound and composition began in autumn of 1997, when they recorded the first track for St.Petersbourg label Perforated. On October the 7th the project EU will be three years old and the album, according to the authors, is a complete report of their experiments during that period. They create and record all their music in a garage, which they transformed into a studio full of strange equipment including old rare analogue synthesisers, drum machines, computer and old mixing desk giving a distinct hiss, which they learned to use to add special colour to the sound. Musicians managed to create quite significant amount of audio material and their tracks appeared on numerous compilations in Russia and abroad. Not surprisingly, their music atracted attention of the Art-Tek records long time ago and the track `Chi' by EU has already appeared the famous Artefacts compilation in 1999. Approximately at the same time the band signed with Art-Tek to release their debut album. After the Artefacts the band attracted attention of several western record labels. This year British label Pause_2 released 7" vinyl by EU with two new tracks. The album is full of unusual rhythmic structures and soundscapes. A lot of warm harmonies and melodic variations may appeal even to classical music heads. The authors, speaking about their music, explain that ``it has three components: sound, rhythm and melody. The rhythm is initiated by the everyday life: it is what we are doing and what we are listening to. The melodies usually come from the past: what is in our memory, what we used to listen to brings the harmonies. The sound itself is the most complicated component and it is the most interesting for us. We spend working on it the greatest ammount of time. We think this component is leading us into the future." We are glad to present you this album. Listen and perceive! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Roman PS: All releases from art-tek records are available for trade from me.
