Here's a name which doesn't get mentioned much here, but should. Dunno
how long his latest (on Mute) has been out, but I was on one of my
relatively rare real-world music shopping jaunts the other day when my
friend (thanks Ed!) pointed it out to me. Being a long time Hiller
afficianado (anyone remember Palais Schaumburg?), I grabbed it. Great
stuff. It has the quirky, cacophonic edge (almost old skool
industrial/orchestral) which earmarked his early solo material and a
touch of the smooth production of the later material plus some
contemporary beat structures to boot. It has a dark, dissonant streak -
and as always, Hiller makes great use of his samples.
