yes, you are correct. the *value* cards do not have the optical inputs on
them. thus making my sblive just a vanilla sblive.
i do want to point out, though, that creative has discontinued the sblive!
value, and they are only available for purchase second hand, so all *new*
sblives do have the optical in/out. they're a nice choice if you don't
want to spend much money on a pretty decent soundcard.
i still don't like the platinum, though :)
