All this talk about laptops... bleh!
The only thing I have to say is, whether the person onstage is doing
anything or not, all I see is the back of a laptop, and and illuminated
face. Who cares how much live tweaking goes on if I can't see it, and even
if I could, it would be pretty similar to what I see when I work on music at
home.
What I care about is that there is something else going on onstage. Create
visuals, make a set, have something going on!Fireworks would be nice! RDJ
had big fuzzy bears and greased up female body builders onstage for a
reason! Most people I've talked to who have seen autechre said they hated it
because "nothing was happening", or that it was good, except "nothing was
happening". I would agree that the same applies for 'live bands' as well.
Sitting there strumming your guitar isn't interesting (at least, it isn't to
me). Put some effort into the SHOW you are putting on, because it is a SHOW!
personally I think if I had any kind of budget I would put on a dog show
with hoops and ladders, or maybe have chimpanzees in knight's costumes in a
jousting competition on shettling ponies while I played my live set.
