The Cars didn't do anything worthwhile in the last 20 years, and the quality of their stuff before that is highly debateable. But lots of top 40 hits, especially dance music, from the 80's were pretty cool since back then Britain allowed lots of not-so-famous acts to make the charts (Gary Numan, the Pretenders, blah blah). And The Roots are cool, but they only scratch the surface of the history of mainstream yet innovative hip hop. But hell yeah for the KLF. Their presence in the top 40 was a fluke, however, and all of you should read their book, the first half of which is an indispensible bubble-burstin' essay on the nature of art and creativity in a irreparably commercial world: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1899858652/qid=968779257/sr=1-1/103-4 996171-3088634 -cf --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
