i give it a year, maybe less. "modern rock" is so stagnant we are due
for another Nirvana-style paradigm shift, the next Prodigy album should do
it :)
but "IDM" in it's current state will never make it to the mainstream in
the USA because there are no vocals. also i think there is a major
testosterone factor to be taken into consideration as far as the
MTV-fratboy-jock target audience is concerned, and last i checked, Markus
Popp's music didn't really seem to exude manliness. And while Autechre
can get a bit ballsy at times, they're no Chemical Brothers.
