Various Artists "Putting the Morr Back in Morrissey" (Morr Music) This year's best compilation, with this year's silliest name? Probably both. Morr Music distinguish itself more and more as one of very best labels for electrinic listening music, and that with only twelve releases behind it. What was supposed to be just an ep of different bands remixing each other became a hole double cd. One cd with 14 new tracks, and one with 14 remixes (not always of the same tracks, though). The compilation can be seen as a who-is-who in new european electronic music, with good tracks from, among others, Manufracture, Styrofoam, E*vax, Phonem, Arovane, B. Fleischmann, Hessen... These bands musical inspiration comes from Boards of Canada, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Stereolab, and so forth. But this isn't just second generation copies, the bands have no problem finding their own ways of putting melodic sounds and rhythms together. The first cd with the original versions is the best one. The remix cd hasn't got as many tracks that stand out. Without contradicting myself I must point out that Arovane's version of "Bitstream" is terribly good, and share first place as the compilation's best tune with Phonem's "Syntax" - the best Phonem song I've heard. Genius. hs review written for swedish Groove magazine, quick-translated into english. _____________________________________________ everything is fiction, all cynic to the bone. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
