speaking of autechrelike artists I have to repeat myself repeat myself. If you make music with softwares, granulars, modulars, bits, pieces, it´s very often compared to autechre because autechre is one of the most known band in the genre. this is a problem that a lot of artists has to live with because people will always compare that kind of music with ae. actually there will probably be this kind of talking if you just make music. sometimes people tell me that the things i make reminds them of the works of schematic, i´ve never heard anything from them. and fatcat records thought that one of my songs sounded like the "ausen vor ep"....what ep? havn´t heard that either...it´s hard to make music that hasn´t been done yet... but the thing that pisses me of is this fucking idiots that is trying to come up with the same kind of songtitles and making homepages, and recordcovers that is totally ripped of from autechre...it seems they try to be autechre...and these artists often gets pissed if you compare them to autechre...but they have themselves to blame....strange huh? and about me saying that all "idm" artists sounds like ae, this was just to see peoples reactions, but i did get a few tips of what to look for, for example i´ve never heard atom heart...i have the other albums from Uwe, since i´ve been a big fan of him since 1992 or something... ____________________________ Andréas -----Original Message----- From: EggyToast [mailto:youn0394@umn.edu] Sent: den 8 september 2000 07:28 To: andrei@world.std.com; idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] the future of "idm"

well, they're a lot better at making Autechre music than most of us :)

true. one of the interesting parts of making music is the music-maker's tastes coming out in the music. whenever i hear some really crappy general-midi dance-track, i always wonder "did the person making this actually think it was good?" it's sort of an odd situation, really, but some people hear autechre and just hear a jumble of noise.

speaking of autechre comparisons, i think the funkstorung comparisons have died down, mainly with that new album (that didn't seem to get the best reviews...). it's good that they've developed into more of their own sound, but it's too bad more people liked them when they sounded like autechre... hmm... cheers, \derek ----------- "Extremism is no vice when God's on your side" -Opus the Penguin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
