9/6/00 Dear Friends/Fellow Workers, How goes the struggle? I am looking for some recommendations for IDM with jazz textures/melodic themes. I love the improvisation and expression of "jazz." I also dig it's constantly transforming nature and it's ability to reflect and examine pop music. Like it or not, some IDM does fall under the definition of pop music (but thas another story, boss). I am particular towards any type of non-traditional or experimental jazz. I host a radio show on KGNU, Boulder 88.5fm (www.kgnu.org) and like to focus on the weird and out stuff. I also offer contrasting images of idm, swing, gospel, soul and hip-hop all in the context of influences in a continuous mix format. It is great fun really. There is no future without the past. I am opening up this forum for any suggestions/comments/etc. Do you have a favorite IDM artist who dabbles in jazz, or a favorite jazz artist who dabbles in IDM? When does it work? When/Why does it fall flat (i.e., Greg Osby's 3-D Lifestyles)? Is there a quintessential jazz meets IDM album? Any favorite transitions between the two? Here is my short list of IDM/jazzers (or jazzer/IDMs): 1. Amon Tobin/Cujo (all) 2. DJ Cam (all) 3. DJ Krush (any recommendations?) 4. Graham Haynes (BPM) 5. Tim Hagans (Imagination/Animation) 6. Squarepusher (any recommendations?) 7. Cinematic Orchestra (motion) 8. Innerzone Orchestra (programmed) 9. Up Bustle and Out (any recommendations?) 10. Roni Size (reprazent) 11. Courtney Pine (any recommendations?) Can I get a witness.
