just scored this from a friend. oh lawd, this is the most fun record i've heard in ages. tracks from Perrey & Kingsley, Dick Hyman, First Moog Quartet, and a few others. most of the tunes are "pops" standards from the 60's, the kind of music you've heard on elevators throughout your life. you get everything from "Popcorn" (covered a zillion times by a zillion bands), to "E.V.A." to the excellent "Shank." some is kind of on the Esquivel hyper-lounge tip, while the rest is just nonsense. some may recognize the synthed-up "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" as the same bluegrass tune that accompanied the Beasties yelling like moonshine-drunken idiots in "Five Piece Chicken Dinner" off "Paul's Boutique." of course, high-pitched detuned monophonic synth strings sounds weren't in *that* version :) Perrey and Kingsley seem to domintate the disc (with 5 of the 17 tracks being theirs), but they do have a keen sense of the silly and fun which goes a long way IMO. You know you want to hear their version of "Spanish Flea." all in all this is a very strong compilation, if you like this sort of thing. it seems like the perfect thing to have on when friends drop by, so they can know just how serious you are about this electronic music thing :) Jeff Bob sez "Check it out!" ------------ 1642 try 621 ------------
