First I have to say Im a big fan of Aphex Twin, Sir Richard James. His style and albums along with FSOL, Autechre, Tetsu, BDog and the Orb just to name a few, were game changers for me back in the early 90's. All these acts are the godfathers of ambient and are a direct result and reason(much to his disdain) for the creation of IDM. Not to discredit the other groups but I think his sound in particular was the most unique and influential. He basically planted the seeds, watered the garden and then just went on a long vacation?!? Some haters may say he just pissed on dirt but they are probably pushing up daisies 3ft under right now lol. But I say he cultivated some pretty tasty buds. There were some amazing hybrid species of flowers that spawned from his inspiration (ie: Tech House, Ambient, D&B, Photek, NIN, Rephlex Rec., etc..) and unfortunately some really gnarly copy cat weeds grew between the cracks of the sidewalk that even Weed-B-Gon couldnt get rid of. Whether you love him or hate him, he always expressed himself with a take it or leave it attitude with no boundaries or limitations. You have to respect the man that can spread musical miracle grow in such a passionate and creative way. I will say its pretty crazy that someone with that much talent hasnt done a full LP in over a decade!! Its like he lost his passport when he was on his vaca and couldnt get back home to water his plants or maybe he didnt want to go back lol...whatever the reason...he is back!! That being said I'm excited that he is. I think there are high expectations from some old school peeps about his homecoming, but I always tell people to be careful when they first listen to an Aphex album or any artist that transcends music or threads the needle of several genre lines. (Its like watching a ridiculously over the top funny movie...the jokes come so fast and furious that you need to watch it again to understand the jokes you missed and then laugh some more.) As for the real fans, I say listen cautiously, listen with an open mind without distractions and of course listen to it a few times before you voice your opinion. This advise couldnt be more true now than ever before, especially to all the new jack hustle critics out there who think they know everything there is about music because of the trickle down effect of the recent popularity and monetary success by some other less than talented so called "music makers?!?"(different topic for a different day). At this point in my life, Ive heard just about everything in electronic music so I doubt Aphex is going to sprinkle holy water over his garden and perform another game changing jack and the bean stalk type miracle. Regardless I'm excited to hear the snap, crackle, crunchy, pop, distorted piano sounds with perhaps a little didgeridoo too :|  Now that Sir James is back from his hiatus, maybe its time he gets back to work to watch his garden grow and hopefully show a few other as well. C'mon RJ put the gloves on, start up the weed wacker and clear a path through the brush and overgrowth and plant some magic beans next to your other monster stalks. Its time to join the party again. Welcome back APHEX TWIN!! ... I care because you do... PS - Someone asked what the album cover meant? Its an itemized billing list of his promo obligations to do some previous albums.
