Agreed. Some people were expressing their disappointment that the new
one was "all-acoustic" (as indeed I thought as well). Uwe corrected us,
saying that it was - in fact - all sampled, oversampled, tweaked and
reworked. I find it all that much more amazing in light of that. I
thought the most charming aspect of the first Coconut was the nearly
seamless transition between acoustic/electronic sounds...when in
actuality it is, in fact, Uwe's manipulation which gives the aural
appearance of either facet. I always thought he could give Ae lessons in
programming (e.g., Schnittstelle) for the obvious timing/drum
programming feats, but this kind of stuff really demonstrates that he
stands head and shoulders as a programmer/manipulator above a lot of
what's out there. Not to mention that he has his fingers in MANY pies
with reference to styles (or that he's been around for a relative coon's
age). He's just released one called "xxx" (on RI) which has a porno
theme - in tandem with "Geez and Gosh" which is his "house" lp dedicated
to Jesus. There's also a single floating around with different mixes of
'Tour de France'. I've also caught wind of something in the works which
is some type of Michael Jackson "homage" (dangerous ground as Jackson
has a history of not appreciating unsolicited references). In addition,
he mentioned recently that he was working on something with a more
'classical' motif...he was lamenting that no one really "composes"
anymore (i.e., creates electronic music with motifs and symphonic
thematic repetition) like Kraftwerk does and that he was/is/has been
working on doing something of the ilk.The man is truly prolific.
