From: "Ross Balmer" <ross@tui.co.uk> Responding to RJ ~ RJ: Ok, here's a question. The ravers go around preaching or >>spouting off PLUR, right? They seem to think or have some sort of >>vision of Peace, Love Unity and Respect, right? Then why don't they >>TRY and DO something constructive and creative FOR their communities.
quoted 4 lines At least that is in the spirit of what PLUR is, versus the empty words>>At least that is in the spirit of what PLUR is, versus the empty words >>they just say to make themselves feel better. Do something for >>someone >>else. And I don't mean "helping" to score drugs for friends >>and younger >>siblings.
~RB: How do you know what they spend their time doing? ~RJ: PLUR seems to be a widespread concept through out the rave scenes. If there was some work on a decent level being done, it would probably get some attention. ~RB: I see all these assumptions being made about people, like they spend all their time taking drugs, with very little evidence. It's all too easy to assume people conform to your convenient stereotypes, but real people rarely do. ~RJ: I suppose the stereotype exists because you see SO MANY people on drugs at raves. Yes, I have seen A LOT!! Kids do OD or fuck themselves up bad. Certainly not everyone does, but it's pretty common. Thus the stereotype. ~RB: It annoys me so much to see all this prejudice, elitism and putting words into people's mouths. ~RJ: I only speak to what I have consistently seen. I have had kids ask if I am going to buy drugs if they have some powder to inject. It's sad to see someone so young already a junkie, and there are SOME. ~RB: And lest it happen to me, I did most of my raving way back in 1989 and I've seen all the things people are complaining about, but all a rave is a party with a dj where people dance. There's no prerequisite that all who attend are 14 and take shovels full of drugs. Plenty of people who like to party are perfectly aware that that's not responsible behavior. ~RJ: Raves have gotten more massive in size since 1989, attendance sizes have increased, and there are WAY more people out there selling now also. Go to them now, then comment. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
