hmmm. . .sounds like from "Dark Star" by John Carpenter. made c. 1974.
it's his student film.
and you're right, it's very classic. three guys bored in space blowing up
planets with bombs who talk. plus there's an asteroid/electrical storm, a
chase scene with a tomato-pincushion-looking alien, homemade keyboard
instruments (footage added later to put bulk on the rather short film) and
one of the best existential endings in a movie ever. i've seen it too damn
many times and it's never gotten old.
Meat Beat Manifesto sampled the hell out of "Dark Star" all over Satyricon.
