The Nosie Made By People - Broadcast (Warp)
Of all the so-called post-rock outfits to come out of the Birmingham scene
in the last few years, Broadcast make the whispiest and mellowest noises,
occasionally floating into Stereolab territory, but rooted in their own
sound library, one full of strange and beautiful forgotten film soundtracks.
The noise made by the people who call themselves Broadcast is a filligree of
sci-fi burbles and Carnaby Street jazz, with the detatched vocals of Trish
Keenan weaving into the tiny paths between the sounds, with a singing style
that occasionally recalls Alison Statton of the Young Marble Giants, or
beatnik jazz-era Blossom Dearie. Come On Let's Go flits eerily in and out of
John Barry mode, while Papercuts has the sweetest vocals hovering above a
chugging electronic rhythm. You Can Fall and Minus One belong in some sci-fi
B-movie world, and Long Was The Year is surely the long-lost track from
YMG's Collossal Youth album. But possibly the best track is Unchanging
Window, the nearest you will hear to a twenty-first century pop song in the
finest Scott Walker tradition.
*i am not attacking you or your question, i am just showing that alot of
questions to the list can be answered on the world wide web. Personally i
believe a list member could come up with a better more in depth review which
is where your question to the list fits in.
