this hurdle is going to have to be overcome if it is ever to become a
consumer reality. most cd players have a good 10 year life on them and
the vast majority were bought well within that time frame. so, unless
interoperatiblity is achieved, the industry isn't going to want to slit
their veins too fast. with the new developments emerging, the could
potential push themselves outside of the market. though maybe that isn't
such a bad thing.
