Funny that you should ask this on the same day I plug Jake's new web site. It's mentioned there (in a Worm Interface press release) that he is "writing his own granular synthesis and real-time compositional software (which is incorporated into a live show that we hope to bring to the UK next year)." Of course, outside of the *comparatively* traditional IDM/techno scene is the highly academic world of avant-garde computer music, much of which is based upon the idea of software design as a primary compositional tool.
