I don't know what BEOS is, but I use Csound for DOS & Csound for Windows. Basicly, it is more like programming than using a physical synth because you do everything by typing up text files. It can be very slow to get anything done, but you get the more control over what you do & more possibilities than you would with any other approach. I think it's the best for doing things with inputted sound files. There is some really unbelievable stuff you can do to your recordings, & certain common things can be done with much higher accuracy & quality than with other methods, but all of this takes much processing power. Some things I do take hours to compile. These have been my brief thoughts on Csound. Marc Poirier
