I can only think of one track on those AI comps that has a melody ('Arcadian'). I'm beginning to think I have a verrrrrrrry different take on melodies to most people on here. Basically, a riff =/= a melody, IMO. More specifically, shifting or building harmonies (layering riffs and/or chords) is not melodic development. I would say a melody is a lead line - a solo sound that progresses and changes over more than a bar or two, _generally_ without much repetition of form. From the recommends people are making about melodic stuff, it seems to be all about the timbre of the sounds, ie. if they're clean synth sounds, it's melodic. I was glad to see someone at least suggesting Mouse On Mars. Anyway, I know I'm being anal, but I just wanted to make a comment cos I find strange. If people get what they are after by asking for something "melodic" then who am I to complain. :) Michael ____________________________________________ "Also, he has automatic evasion devices" http://www.vuw.ac.nz/~michael/jj.html
