I was some sort of runner-up on the "name that tour" contest, but nonetheless
the ninjas just sent me two promos that I will review this weekend and
post here -- the new Neotropic, and the Clifford Gilberto.
Here's my capsule impressions:
Neotropic: Dark, mostly downtempo stuff, with some breaks.
Gilberto: Now here's some stuff that wears it's 70's jazz
fusion roots on it's sleeve! Kind of like
Squarepusher, but not quite that bloody-minded.
I was folding laundry while this played in the
next room, but this is a one to watch!
I guess in the past I've never really thought that much about
Ninjatone, but you have to give it up to these guys -- their
releases are as varied and adventurous as labels like Rephlex,
but their quality control seems to be working better!
