hello.
i do not know hardly anything about the equipment electronic
musicians use to make their music.
i make my own, and am starting to send out demotapes.. i make
it all on the PC w/ fasttracker2, software synths/effects progs for
the samples, and my friend yamaha cs1x.
a few friend and i are interested in getting some equipment to
do things live, or at least more cooperatively..
what do we need?
i see ads for all kinds of samplers/fx units/synths/sequencers, etc..
so far, my friend has a yamaha cs1x... that should take care of
our needs for digital synth stuff; perhaps we will get another one
sometime else but it is not necessary right now.
soon we will get a dj mixer for use with our turntables, which are not
currently top notch, but again, we can't afford tecnics 1200's right now.
our use for the turntables is scratching & sometimes background beats..
i think what we might need right now is:
- analog synth/fm synthesis synth (for making brandnew sounds, w/
resonance
& cutoff knobs, able to make strange sounds, metallic percussion, lots
of
knobs!).. max price: $500
- dj mixer.. $100
- some type of good, portable recording system (DAT, MD).. $500
- good microphone for use w/ DAT recorder (above), to make samples..$??
- sampler w/ resonance+cutoff effects & sequencer.. $500
about samplers & sequencers...i don't know..how are they better than
using fastracker2 on the pc with which i am so familiar? so would it
be better to use a laptop w/ a good soundcard w/ midi + multiple line
outputs?
- effects units.. do they make any that have res/cutoff knobs to use on
anything
you put through the unit? or can you use a wah pedal on anything? :)
reverb (this just adds echoing & therefore
professional-sounding-ness :)? what else can you do w/ reverb), EQ's,
etc..
- studio mixer?
what do you people with studios use? could i have detailed descript. of
how it all fits together & what does what?
what do some artists that this list is centered around use? ie.
autechre...
