Note it appears that the phrase "fuck the millenium we want it now" has to
do with money being spent in England on the millenium (millenium dome?)
instead of spending money on social programs now. This is just what I
gather from other sources. Perhaps someone in England can enlighten me on
this.

Yesssss ! Last night's performance was A1. Surprisingly I'm still totally
gobsmaked.
The evening started for me, in the Vaults, meeting up with other listmembers
(Hi to Tim, Anders, Simon Daw, Simon, matey from Israel & girlfriend, Corey, &
lots of others). Had a swift pint there, then mooched down to the Barbican.
Inside the waiting bit there was a guy handing out sheets with a list of people
performing and the lyrics to that old tune on the otherside - it said at the
bottom we are all requested to stand and sing (although no-one did). It also
said at the bottom it was a performance for K2 Plant Hire Co (make of that what
you will).
Anyway, the entrance hall was buzzing with people comparing rarities etc (saw
Alex Patterson as well). Eventually we were let in, the inside part is
massive. I was right down at the front G13 and Tim's mate Simon (?) was next
to me. We were right in front of the stage and the HUGE arrangement of
speakers. From the speakers was coming a mixture of radio interference and
broadcasts - could have been Jimmy pissing about I s'pose. Anyway in the
centre of the stage was something covered over and there was a huge white
screen at the back, and a preacher's pulpit to the side as well. At sometime
the lights went off and on the screen were the words (in that font) 'A BRICK' -
which was then followed by about 5-10 minutes of a still picture of a
housebrick on the screen and the tune from FAME chopped about with radio
broadcasts booming out of the speakers. After which the message 'THE END'
appeared (accredited to the K-Foundation). I was getting worried at this
point, believing this to be it.
Anthony Wilson came on stage and gave a brief history of Acid Brass & how the
KLF fitted into this. Then on the stage appeared Tony Thorpe and some other
guys (on drums & guitars) - could these be the moody boys ? Anyway, then
appeared Gimpo dressed in a white work overall with loadspeaker, and Z in a
gold sparkly suit as the preacher. Then the screen went back to reveal the
Acid Brass band and the Red army choir standing behind them (with what looked
like massive oars held upright). There were 3 girls stood to the left with
violins and then the thing in the middle was uncovered. It was Bill & Jimmy
dressed in old pyjamas in electric wheelchairs with the big Horn things
attached to their heads - they were introduced as the Justified Ancients !
Anyways, the tune is gonna be huge - well with us lot at least. The brass band
kick it off, and it's basically a re-working of WTIL, the beat has been updated
with a coupla scratches here & there, but excellent all the same. Most the way
thru there's some sort of dialogue, which I couldn't quite catch, but every
now&again, there's the Fuck The Millenium chant come thru'. Half way through
there's a similar part to IGUN, where it slows down & fades a bit to kick into
the song (to which we were all given the lyrics) - sung by the red army choir.
The the tune kicks back in with a vengance - bloody marvellous. Eventually it
ends with a looped sample (in similar style to Waiting video). They also did K
Cera Cera after that and then went into what I guess is the radio edit of the
tune, which has all the Fuck bits beeped out. The bass on the tune is massive,
since I was sat feet away from the speakers, I felt the bass just pass straight
thru' me.
Afterwards we left and were all handed a paper bag each, containing a T-shirt,
car sticker & small poster - all emblazoned with "Fuck The Millenium" in that
font and the Millenium crisis line number.
Went back to the Vaults after for a drink and popped off home afterwards - all
in all a bloody good evening & wouldn't have missed it for the world. The
lovely girls sat next to me had VIP passes into the after-gig party in the
Green Hall (run by Mute), but I couldn't blag my way in since it was strictly
invite only.
Well, all those that didn't catch it on TV/Radio/or weren't there, be prepared
for a mass influx of postings about it !
