AFX may be danceable on albums. Live, it's an iffy proposition (I tried off-and-on, with only limited success. And no, i wasn't complaining about his lack of danceability. I was just commenting on it, maybe even laughing at the silly ravers). His live set was really really loud, really assaultive, got really fast at times, and as Chris Fahey said, he killed grooves before they got anywhere. Generalizing about much of dance/rave music, there's a definite groove, the beat is repetive or at least consistent, and the music is fast, but not insane fungle fast. Even jungle has a danceable bass line, and loops, loops, loops. And yes, people do dance to hardcore and other insanely fast stuff, but they're a select group of ravers (probably those on the most insane drugs). Same thing with We's set. There were danceable sections, but they threw in NOISEY drum parts, ambient sections, and some pure noise, and most people couldn't take it. Their loss. Also, ravers tend to like their sets consistent with regard to genre. They like a house set, a jungle set. not a mixture of styles. Well, that's my grossly inaccurate, biased, and just plain goofy opinion. Sam
