Go back to school and learn as much as you can about things *not*
involving electronic music. Some of the best IDM makers don't even listen
to that much techno type stuff. Find your inspirations from other sources,
dig through old design books, old photography, and your grandma's record
collection. If you are only seventeen, and have been into this type of
music for a year or so, then you have a *ton* of homeowork to do. Hell I'm
25 and I feel like I don't know shit yet! As corny as it sounds, education
is the key my friend, no matter what field of study. You have to see the
big picture, and that doesn't come into focus very quickly. Actually it
takes a lifetime. You'll see enough of it to come up with some serious
stuff when you really get down to biz and follow your passions. You
discover those passions (at least I did) in school.
