damn, you guys are taking this all a bit seriously... just because i didn't put an IMO to the original message you're freaking out... i don't want to argue about the sound quality or portability of different mediums of music storage, but the 'personality' of the medium. for me, cds don't sound right. for you, they do. i have collected cds for some years, but when i bought my sl-1200 i instantly stopped buying cds because i was amazed by the 'warm' sound of vinyl recordings and the amount of interesting music available on vinyl only. of course you can never understand this. of course i can never speak on the behalf of recording artists, but i see no reason why some labels and artists simply don't simply release cds if they want a wide audience. in my opinion, this is because they don't necessarily want global domination, but to fill the needs of the scene, the people who usually buy 12"'s. this way, the music is MAINLY made for people buying vinyl. of course this is just my point of view, but i think there are people who see things the same way because they keep pressing 12"'s instead of cds, which are cheaper to manufacture. plus, vinyl has all the nostalgia needed =). 12"'s are an important part of electronic music, because new artists usually release their stuff in this medium. to keep up with new music, you have to listen to 12"'s and demos. this is what i meant when i used the department store metaphor.
