I have bought *all* of my best turntables over many years at garage
sales/auctions/
flea markets and junk shops.
I even saw a functioning pair of 1200s at a garage sale once for 100 bucks each.
Seek and ye shall find.
Also, it *more likely than not* should'nt matter what part of the country
you live in.
Remember, before the CD player, tts were the norm.
My * best * turntable which I use daily, I bought for $ 20 at a garage sale.
As Laz implies below, for the price of a weekly import CD buy at your local
hipster CD shop, voila! you can afford a turntable.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for the "buy a turntable" sneer of the
archaic-technology fetishists, but really, "I can't afford one" collapses as
an excuse once you've admitted that you can afford to buy CDs. Get up before
noon some Saturday and hit a few garage sales and you'll quickly be drowning
in $10 and $15 turntables of perfectly servicable quality.
