I have to say I'm on Brock's side on this one, let me just reply to a couple of
things...
Rishi I hear where you are coming from with regard to wanting more info about
hearing new (potentially cool) music,
with that said I have to ask you how old you are (are you a student) and/or
whether or not you have a full time job in addition to
your music. I ask only because there are a substantial number of people (myself
included) on this list who simply don't have the time to
keep track of the mp3s du jour and thus get annoyed with the frequent blatant
self promotion posts. Brock is also a special case in that not only does he
work (correct me if I'm wrong Brock don't you run a website), but he has also
been on this list for the past 4 (or more) years. He has
been on this list since the early days when mp3s didn't really exist, there
weren't new artsists and labels popping up on a weekly basis, etc.
It's just the pure glut of posts is getting tired, and the ratio of promotion
messages to non promotion messages is growing larger. I suspect
the majority of people who have issues with the mp3 type posts have been on
this list for quite a while and are not exactly happy with the overall
content shift of the list over the past year. But as someone who is doing this
whole micromabel thing I can appreciate you wanting to spread and share music.
My advice to you would be to find a way to track who it is that downloads your
music, and make a (weekly, monthly) newsletter that goes directly to them...
just my .02
