It's very good, I've been playing it every day since I got it. A lot of the
remixes have a Drum n Bass feel. There are a couple of dodgy mixes though.
The Orbs remix of Halleluhwah isn't very good, but that's definitely a
personal taste thing, Orb fans will love it but to me it's Orb by numbers.
It's my favourite Can tune you see so I'm a bit precious about it, and I
think the Orb have killed it. The other dodgy one is System 7's remix of
dizzy spoon, which was a shock to me, I thought Steve Hillage would have
done something pretty wild and in the end it's just too 'nice'..
Stand out tracks are the 2 incredible mixes of 'Oh Yeah' by Gareth Jones +
Daniel Miller and Secret Knowledge (with Jah wobble). The UNKLE mix of
'Vitamin C', Pete Shelleys take on 'Father Cannot Yell', Carl Craig's
'Future Days' all good stuff. And for humour value Brian Eno's 'Pnoom' and
Westbams ...'And More' will make yer smile, if you get the joke.
I'm sure this album will mean we'll all here Jaki Liebezeit drum breaks
turning up on all manner of releases. Which is a good thing, the only time
I've heard his incredible playing sampled before was by the Happy Mondays
and This Mortal Coil *shiver as I remember the horror of the TMC track*.
It's a shame that Mark E Smith and Julian Cope turned down the chance to
remix a Can tune for this release, they would have been really interesting,
and would have balanced all the drum based mixes with some guitar led mixes.
The guitar work of Karoli does get rather unfairly neglected in these mixes.
And will someone please do a decent mix of Halleluwah, PLEASE!!! And put it
on vinyl so we get to play it out.
Stray.
