with these extra tracks:
Richard Thomas - menage a trois
- here i am
- intrusion reported by witness
- dirt vs earth (part ii)
- hidden untitled final track
less than a minute long, but each packs in more restrained yearning and
atmosphere than a Wim Wenders film. "here i am" is almost too slight to have
any
consequence whatsoever, but on infinite-repeat it'll add sunshine to your
day.
The Sons of Silence - the crater rim cafe
SOS in distinctly O Yuki mode. heavily echoed footsteps and wisps of
flute-like
sound. subtle enough that even SOS's usual samples and skidding bike-tire
noise
feels light as a spring rain. the b-line, so gentle and patient, barely
distubs the ether.
SOS's debut album, _Silence FM_ - the first LP on Leaf - will be out in
June. i'll post
a review long before then.
Nonplace Urban Field - beachside fx
starts like a snapshot of Bernd Friedmann's static _Leisure Zones_ - all
melody
implied; then rides a swelling bass into a darkly beautiful explosion. tiny
breakbeats
pingpong through a thick layering of fantastic sounds. a truly gorgeous
piece.
Twisted Science - sloop b
Jon Tye does it all - near silence to gabber-force breakbeat. he's best when
he takes
incongruous elements and synthesizes something completely new - like this.
building from a threatning MLO-ish drift into a smokescreen of slowly
flanged
feedback. lacking the beats of his _Blown_ LP (review forthcoming) but no
less
intense for it.
Air Miami - nevada 2007
a very unlikely appearance by 4AD's ex-Unrest popsters. somewhat pedestrian
ambience, but there's a middle call-and-response section which sounds like a
graveyard coming alive, ghosts, rattled chains, and synth moans. shows
promise
beyond Mark Robinson's usual sugar-frosted pop bombs.
most of the original I.S. tracks also appear -
I/S vI
Zurich (Tony [Spykid/Echo Park] Wilson & Neil [Slowdive/Mojave3] Halstead)
- a harsh truth (parts one and two)
Being (Dave Being) - cue
Disjecta (Mark Clifford) - vistic <--- Clifford's maiden journey as
Disjecta!
Gescom - bronchusix (a precusor to Autechre's "bronchuseven" ? (Garbage EP)
I/S v2
Richard Thomas - muffin spencer-devlin/hawaii ii
Bedouin Ascent (Kingsuk Biswas) - if mountains could sing
Seymour (Darren [Echo Park/Scala])/Van Hoen (Mark [Locust/Scala[) - tema
Vendor Refill (Tom Betts [a Skam artist. Logo Feet?] - pendulum
strangely not included are Ronnie & Clyde's trip-boppy "Chicken Dinner" and
another RT piece, "Intrusion Reported By Witness" - both from I/S v2. so look
for the 12"...

Proper-Shepard (ex-God Machine), Kingsuk Biswas, Luke Vibert, and (?) Smith.
super freaked-out noise. just recently released on Lo Recordings: 12"s from
Margoo and Echo Park, featuring their tracks from _3: United Mutations_ as
well as new material.

Lo is Jon Tye's label. the Twisted Science record (again, review forthcoming)
is a joint release between Lo (the first Lo LP!) and Leaf, who have released
the rest of Tye's Twisted Science material.

well - more information to follow - but:
Soup-disk/Ishmitu is a little Japanese label which is TRULY da bomb.
Ninebar is kicking serious jazzed-up/wigged-out freakbeat butt.
Swim~ just released their ph@est platter, dol-lop's _Cryptic Audio_.
Suburbs of Hell/Sprawl is always worth checking out. Si-{cut).db's where it's
at!
ever-reliable SSR's Language offshoot just dropped a mega-fresh Buckfunk3000
(Si Begg) 12" ("Systematic/Funkbwithu/Shakey") and SSR's Snooze brought in
Flytronix and Cheap mainstays Pulsinger & Tunakan for a pair of terrific
remixes on the "Your Consciousness Goes Bip" 12". also worth pursuing is
Jordan Fields' _Rendezvous_ 12" - quality House for quality-House people and
insatiable Jedi Knights and Carl Craig fans. this one's sly beatcraft could
actually place it in the Universal Language family. excellent.
also worth tracking down immediately are records by...
America's own Magnet-F (contact list-member cdtoad@cdtoad.com) and an
unspeakably whacked record from London's Hungarian dub/D&B massive (!), Szeki
Kurva (_Music for Joyriders_ on Iris-Light). this little gem is too wild for
words. think Pork's Solid Doctor in a side-on collision with Atari Teenage
Riot and NPR's European radio hour ... very very surreal. and anything which
shows up on Rising High's Blue Planet/World/Angel offshoots. the latest Bisk
LP (_Strange or Funny-Haha?_) on SubRosa is another silverstreaked slice of
Japanese genius from Naohiro Fujikawa. Tone-Rec's _Thugny-Trugny_ (also on
SubRosa) is sure to find friends among the abstract crowd - and could serve
as fantastic raw material for remixes.
...and that's really just the tip of the iceberg, isn't it?
ciao 4 now-
