Ok, just to be totally difficult..... I read this article and thought it wasn't all that bad. What the article was about was the INDUSTRY HYPE. Who started it ? Its a media thing, and the article in question was basically debunking all the hype and making rational statements about the actual state of the industry. i.e.
quoted 6 lines     In a survey of more than a dozen U.S. record>    In a survey of more than a dozen U.S. record > executives by Calendar, only one >thought there was > even remotely enough evidence to >justify calling techno > "the next big thing."
The article was about the pathetically huge lemming factor involved in this, the biggest media music hype on record. It was not about introducing readers to lots of really small electronica artists that no-one in the business world gives a fuck about but you think are crucial because they do really intelligent things with breakbeats. It was about the self perpetuating media hype. In that case it was extremely important to cover the bowie, the u2, the (still can't get over this one) eric clapton. the major label prospects of prodigy, chems etc. Why did you expect it to cover every single one of the 50 or so groups that I can think of that are on the second tier ? No, sorry, what the article said was the exact opposite :

Aurafix again...

That I thought was pretty perceptive. There is a new and very large media out there with video games and computers, that is taking a lot of money that might have been spent on records. Its true, why do you think that its not ? Because you (or I for that matter) spend lots of money on records ? These guys do research, believe it.

btw. I'm not flaming YOU !!!! Just gotta point out these things. I've read plenty of really really bullshit articles about the electronica hype thing, and this one actually had some interesting stuff to say. Now here's a great quote you can rag on :
quoted 2 lines Don Ienner,>Don Ienner, > president of Columbia Records,
quoted 7 lines  "Techno is only sonically>  "Techno is only sonically >enhancing or dressing up > what you have. You can put whatever >dress or suit you > want on any person. It's the artist >and the song, not > what suit you're wearing."
what's a song ?
