I just saw the new Daft Punk video. It's a great departure for video making. There's this guy with a dog's head (a really nice special effects mask) walking around the city saying hi to people and doing boring pointless stuff. He's got a boombox which is playing the song. But the music is relegated to a very minor part of the mix, as if it were merely a small part of the soundtrack to the short film surrounding it. You can hear the cars, his conversations, and all that more than the song for much of the video. The boom box has a broken switch, so he can't turn it off. Actually, I could barely hear the song. But I could hear the song anywhere - the point of the video was to create an image or experience to associate with the song. Sometimes videos ruin a song by permanently associating a stupid image with a song, but this one is so bizarre and revolutionary (by MTV standards) that I'm glad it was done. -CF
