Tonight I heard the latest chapter in the mainstream catching up with
electronica. Forget Bowie, Reznor and U2; NPR reviewed the new
DJ Shadow with track excerpts. The critic mentioned Dr Octagon as
another innovator in a post hip-hop genre that avoids the pitfalls of
today's commercialised hip-hop. There was also mention of techno, house
and trip-hop but there was no mention of drum and bass. Maybe next week.
Overall, a good review with an awareness of DJ Shadow and hip-hop.
Somewhat academic in approach but more objective than typical reviews.
