I still think that the best intro to Varese would be the CBS LP conducted by Robert Craft, which I believe contains "Poeme Electronique" among various other works. It's fairly common in the 20th Cent Classical bins & I think received CDization. Look for the olive green cover. There was a 2CD that came out recently that claimed to be "complete" (did you know that Mr. Varese was no more prolific than Klaudia Schiff?), but reaction to it seemed fairly mixed among fans. At least enough to make me put it off (any opinions around here? Andrei?) I mean, it does have the original version of "Ameriques" on it, so it's gotta be worth checking out. -rob ps- when you search cdnow for all sackbut recordings, it doesn't return Kagel's "Music for Renaissance Instruments"... heresy! pps- Hugh Le Caine rules --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
