My money is on, erm, money. I remember something from the liner notes of
"Aunt Aubrie's blah blah" where Alex Patterson talks about how the Orb
basically tours and records on the proceeds of their remix work. Not to
mention that having your group's name on a NIN single is a nice bit of
publicity and may encourage someone to give _your_ stuff a listen. Which
is a GoodThing(tm), IMNSHO.
