SoundLab and the RV present The Substation: Off the Grid February 7-8, 1997...from dark 'til high noon @ 19 East 32 Street (off of Madison Avenue), New York City February 7, NYC illbient posses come together in a special multilevel electrotectural site, from engine room to art studio, for a 12 hour gathering of DJ's, live electronicians, software hackers, video & vibes visualists and lab specialists. 35 performances on four sound systems kicking a field of frequency flavors--drum 'n mad bass, dub gyrations, technomania, the trip to the hip of the hop, illbient soundscaping, experimental electronics...and on and on past the break of dawn. There is a kitchen that will be utilized--bones to the latecomers. Sound artists include: Silver, Kahn (Temple Records), Dr. Decent (RV), Wally & Swingsett (Samz Jointz), Soulslinger (Jungle Sky), the Bedouin (Roir), Peanut Butter Wolf (San Francisco), Singe & Verb (SoundLab), Byzar (Asphodel), Shaolin Fist (Jungle Sky), We (Asphodel), Lady TKO (UK), Dara (Breakbeat Science), Jamisan, Lovegrove (Sonic Soul), Aldo (Throb), Hallucifer (Strange), John Selway, Honeychild & Gretchen, Blank Slate, Christina Wheeler, Toshio MK, Hahn Roe, Flux Quartet and more. Visualistic freeforms: Twinkle Twinkle, Multipolyomni, Kaspar, Feedbuck Galore, Operation Mindswipe, Mau, Neil Sonar and others, with software developers such as Pixound, MB Interactive, and IN2.
