G'day,
I'm a newcomer to this list, and was wondering if any list members might
be able to recommend some new music for me.
At the moment I'm into Orbital/Underworld/Chemical Brothers, but I'm
always on the lookout for more (hope I didn't offend too many people with
mention of the above groups). I also just purchased '76:14' by Global
Communication - not bad, but comes a bit close to Tangerine Dream for my liking.
I love techno/trance that just *sounds* fantastic - I don't frequent clubs
or anything, I'm just into the music. Not really into jungle, though.
Hopefully that might give an indication as to what I might like, and explain
my ignorance about things that you all seem to take for granted.
What can anyone tell me about Darren Emerson's DJ Mixes 'Pyschotrance 2'
and 'Textures'?
Had a listen to Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works II' the other day -
didn't do much for me, I'm afraid. Maybe I should give it another listen. I
know it is regarded as a classic of this genre. How does 'I Care Because You
Do' sound like, in comparison to SAW2 and as opposed to, say, Orbital?
I didn't mind Speedy J's new one - a bit short though. I saw an import
copy that came with a bonus CD, but no info. Can anyone tell me what that
bonus CD is, and what's on it?
I see a fair bit of Sven Vath and System 7 around the shops, but I'm yet
to listen to either (well, I had a listen to an Underworld remix of Sven
Vath, but it contained a really annoying sample all through the song - kinda
like a siren - which just annoyed me). What's the opinion of these?
What labels are generally considered to have the most interesting tunes? I
haven't heard much of FAX or WARP (apart from Speedy J). Any others? Who are
the most interesting artists?
Forgive me if I seem to tread on a few toes with my opinions here - I'm
just trying to lay out what I've heard, what I thought, etc as a background,
so that hopefully other people will have an idea as to what I might like to
seek out in the future.
Cheers,
Geoff
