My 10 cents on Alec, A friend gave me 'Generation Star Wars' because he knew I was into 'that distorted shit'. I was pleasantly surprised. Upon the first listen, RDJ came to mind. SAW II type ambient plus a few great distorted tracks. After more plays Alec's unique style came more apparent. A very diverse chap, this Alec. After that introduction, I've been buying all of his releases (except for ATR). 'Low on Ice' is more on a ambient tip but still very good. As for 'the Destroyer' that one I use to torture my asshole downstairs neighbors (along with 2 of the Universal indicator GREEN records mixed together, not beatmatched) They retaliate with showtunes and their horrible singing. They always loose, wimps... One other release of his that I haven't seen discussed is 'Hypermodern Jazz 2000.5'. The first time I heard it, I thought it was crap...months later I was checking out all the tracks on different speeds and found a couple of gems among the dog shit. This album is very wacky and if you can get past the goofy keyboard pounding, has it's moments. It's kind of like lounge jungle on speed. Typical Alec Empire track titles: Walk the Apocalypse God Told me How to Kiss Get Some I'm Goinna Die if I fall Asleep Again The Unknown Stepdancer Chilling Through the Lives Many Bars and No Money My Funk is Useless Slowly Falling in Love Dreaming is a Form of Astrotravel Is Alec Empire a very happy person? I don't know, but I like his music... brock np: Spacetime Continuum - 'remit recaps'
