4th world communication a couple of recommended items/reviews Vulva - Birdwatch cd/lp (rephlex Cat035) tim hutton and tom melchior continue in the vien of their recent pure plastic 12" (no.6) and provide the soundtrack to a ride through a gleaming futuristic metropolis, very smooth and polished electronica with all the funkiness and emotion of the motor city , but still retaining their own unique vision. Full of subtle melodies, soaring strings and crystal cool beats sometimes twittering and frantic , other times mean and dark , this is another string to rephlex's ever increasing eclectic bow. Standout track for us is opener "Happy Birdie", driving bass, crisp electro patters and deep space morse code tappings.9/10 Aphex Twin - Girl/Boy 12" (Warp WAP 78) If syd barret was still orbiting this planet , and producing music - we reckon he would be making records like this! Rich has kept the elastic lo-fi tinny breakbeats of HAB, but added a cornacopia of almost psychedelic elements, ticking clocks, soft orchestral passages and gentle plucked cellos fill out the child like melodies spun over colliding tumbling beats. Both "beetles under my carpet" and "milkman" feature the sub cockney monotone of mr.james , along with nonsense lyrics , as for them being pop songs , can yer imagine rich on top off the pops singing "I would like some milk from the milk mans wife's tits"! , in a genre were a sense of humour is sometimes hard to find , this 6 tracker is both entertaining and refreshing - nice one geezer 10/10 over and out sm@ 4th world records uk http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld/
