i haven't seen a review of this much hyped release yet so here's some of
my thoughts on it after my first spin..
this 3x12" comes in a clear plastic bag with absolutely no info. the
vinyl is really heavy and good quality, just the way i like it. the only
info printed on the release are the different shapes on each side. each
shape represents a track; there are 6 tracks.
the general sound of the release is noisy in the same way as the
'triangle cake' track on the bola 7" on skam. i've heard many people
compare the sound of this release to bola and i have to say that the
comparisions are very much in place, although the structure of the
tracks is in my opinion slightly different. the beats seem to mostly
work in the same manner as on most of the tracks from mr fitton though.
heavy bass booms pleasantly balance the strong mid-range action that's
present in most of the tracks. the round side differs from the rest of
the package because it's mostly beatless, but fits in well with the rest
of the tracks and i think the sinister feeling that is present on the
whole release is particularly strong in this one. lush string melodies
and loops beautifully create depth to these tracks and old-schoolish
synth sounds give the release a nice 'space' type of sound. the triangle
side is more upbeat and my favourite of the pack.
most recent releases have left me cold but this one really made my day.
it has the certain kind of quality that got me interested in this kind
of music a long time ago that doesn't seem to be present in most newer
releases.
sorry for the short review but maybe i'll post a more through-out one
later on after repeated listening..
