jAE> He's got a new single
jAE> called "no one in the world", but I've put off buying it
jAE> since it has vocals by Karen Carpenter.
I've only been away a few days .. to find you're all taking about Karen
Carpenter. I was sent on this wayward path as well by a review I read in a
rather obscure Dutch mag. To make matters worse, the song as brought out by
Locust is only credited to van Hoen/Udell/Geld, whereas the 'orginal' version
by W.F.O. on Excursions into Ambience is credited to Udell/Geld/P.B.Layer ...
Searching the net revealed that Udell/Geld wrote musical scores for Broadway
productions, like Purlie and Shenandoah, the latter was nominated for a Grammy
award in the year 1975 .. the same year that the Carpenters actually won the
Grammy for 'close to you'.
So much for the historical side-tracking. Being in possession of the cd single,
I can safely say that the vocals are by someone called Wendy Roberts, although
I can't tell you who Wendy Roberts is. I wish I could. Like I wish I knew who
W.F.O. is/are.
Is there anybody out there with the original W.F.O. 12" No-One on Astralwerks
[ASW 6106] (b-side is Autocreation 'dark smile') who can shed some light on
this?
jAE> influence on my buying records is female vocals; unless it's
jAE> sarah peacock!) Anyway, the new album should be
jAE> interesting....
The new Scala album is pretty brilliant .. I'm sure you wanna hear Sarah's
version of Blondie's Heart of Glass ...
b.t.w. The cover of the lp mentions that for contractual reasons it won't be
available in the UK.
