After being reminded of Kraftwerk's influence on electronica by someone's (Lance
McGannon?) retro-review of 'Computer World', I dug out my copy of 'Electric Cafe' and
was surprised to find the sounds on it to still be quite fresh, despite the fact that
the album's 10 years old. Although the record is more pop-oriented than most dance
music, the first side is amazing and kicks ass in terms of timbres, especially rhythm
tones. A lot of people seem to dis this record and say it's one of their weaker
releases, but I disagree.
On another note, I think that 'Computer World' and 'Electric Cafe' would be a great
material for cut-up jungle stuff; I'd love to see Luke Vibert go buck-wild with a bunch
of Kraftwerk samples...
