With all this talk about shopping for records/CD's in Los Angeles,
I am surprised that no one has mentioned Dr. Freeclouds Mixing
Lab, owned and operated by Ron D Core and Simply Jeff.
It is in Costa Mesa (Orange County), and is probably at
least 45min from the Melrose Area, but worth the drive.
I have found that this store generally compares well with the
places I have been in the SF area (Soundworks, the Telegraph
stores) and even with places I went in London. The staff
is really friendly and organized, and there are listening
stations for CD's and records. Very big selection of both,
although I generally go for the records.
The prices aren't the best you'll find, but they are definitely
reasonable.
